Dr David Butler

Our last meeting of 2015 was held up at the Brook Waimarama Sanctuary, where we had the chance to hear from Dr David Butler. David, an ornithologist and conservation biologist, is a founding member and current chair of the board of trustees for the sanctuary.

We were treated to a riveting and sometimes very moving account of his life and work with endangered species.  The talk was very appropriate, because it meant that our president Roger Sanson, seen here in Christmas mode

did not have to spend too much time explaining why we wished to honour Dr Butler by naming him a “Paul Harris Fellow“, given to people who have made an outstanding contribution to our community.  The decision was a surprise for David and a delight for his proud daughters.
