During March and April of 2023, the Rotary Club of Nelson completed the construction of 4 Shelters on the Great Taste Cycle Trail to be used as rest stops by trail users. The work was carried out by 2 teams of Rotarians with the construction group, led by two members who are licensed builders, completing each shelter one day and a follow-up crew staining the timber structures and  cladding the following day. The total project value was $36,000+GST with Rotary’s in-kind labour contribution being $18.000 +GST. This project continues the significant role Rotary has played in the development of the Great Taste Trail since it was launched in 2010. In recognition of our support, the ‘Heart of Biking” group, which controls the Nelson/Tasman public cycle trails, has accorded “official partner” status to the Rotary Club of Nelson.
