Besides location and natural scenic attributes, the beauty of Nelson is enhanced by the leafiness of the city due to ongoing strategic tree planting efforts.

The majority of Nelson residents and certainly visitors would be unaware of the extent of the contribution of Rotary towards achieving this.

Much of the planting of trees together with some gardens and other works have been carried out by Rotary Nelson members over the 95 years the club has been working to enhance Nelson.

Irrigated hanging flower baskets (now 650 I number) are a feature of Nelson City’s celebration of summer. Nelson Rotary  made a significant contribution to the launch of this initiative in 2000  including planting of baskets and gaining retailer support of the project.
